We are the Bioinformatics research group of the Departmento de Ingeniería Informática (DIINF) of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH). We are interested in proposing novel solutions to the problems that exist in the area of Bioinformatics, using Computer Science knowledge. In our team we active academics in their respective areas of discipline and applied research, among which are: combinatorial optimization, graph theory, machine learning, metaheuristics, high performance computing, scalable systems, among others. The main objectives in the laboratory are (1) to develop algorithmic and software solutions for problems in bioinformatics, (2) working together with specialists from the various areas of biology involved in the problems formulation and evaluation of solutions, (3) innovate in the use of computer science and technologies to problems in bioinformatics and (4) to contribute to the formation advanced human resources in this area to contribute to the development of a knowledge-based economy. In addition, the group promotes the exchange and the creation of national and international collaborations.
Currently, we are interested in the areas of :
- Gene Expression data analysis
- Structural Bioinformatics: Protein structure preditcion and molecular docking
- Phylogenetic Inference
- Multiobjective optimization
